How to Cope with Complicated People at Work
There is a lot that you will find to be difficult at work, but dealing with your co-workers is just the tip of the iceberg. You will find that there is a lot that you can do for yourself, but you will find that coping with a complicated person at work is not going to be an easy task.
When it come to coping with any type of person, you will find that open communication is the best way for you to go about your business. You will find that if you are given an opportunity to make something out of yourself at work, you will do all that you can to climb that corporate ladder, and that includes dealing with complicated people. The first thing that you are going to have to work on is your lack of patience. Allow the person to say whatever they need to say without being interrupted. You may not know this, but if you don't give them a change to say what they need to say, then you will just drag on the conversation even more and it will take up more of your time. You will find that if you are dealing with a talker, allow them to say whatever it is and then begin to talk after they are finished. This will make things go a lot smoother.
Secondly, you not only need to have patience, but listening skills. Don't just block out what they are saying, you need to physically hear what they are saying and then use your listening skills to understand what they are telling you. One of the worst things that you can do is block out a complicated person. This is just going to make the situations worse and you will end up in a bad place.
Thirdly, you will want to ask them questions. Make sure that you ask questions if you do not understand. When it comes to complicated people, you will find that it can be hard for them to explain themselves. This is when you need to take the time to ask questions and get the true answers. If you don't understand and want to make it simple, you will repeat some of the things that they have told you back to them so that the communications are not misunderstood. You will find that there are a lot of people who think they hear one message, but it's really something else, all because of the background noise.
Finally, when you are coping with a complicated person, try to see things their eyes. This will help you to understand the other person and it will help you to become a better co-worker. You will find that understanding is the basis for any relationship rather it is at work or at home. You will want to give them your complete attention and understanding when dealing with a complicated person.
